Thank you for helping me reach my Walk to Defeat ALS® fundraising goal! This is an exciting opportunity for us to work together to support those affected by Lou Gehrig's Disease and to spread awareness of the urgency to find treatments and a cure.
Please consider walking with our me or sponsoring me. With your help, we will be able to make a difference in the lives of people affected by this disease. I encourage you get your friends, family, neighbors and coworkers involved!
Why We Need Your Help
As most of you know, my wonderful mother in law, Lil Fryman, passed away from ALS in 2011. You may also know how horrible the disease is from knowing her during her time with the disease. If not, well I can tell you it is awful to watch and to deal with. It robs one of being able to move, eat, talk, and eventually everything except eye movement. Your family and caregivers feel helpless.
Every 90 minutes a person in this country is diagnosed with ALS and every 90 minutes another person will lose their battle against this disease. ALS occurs throughout the world with no racial, ethnic, or socioeconomic boundaries.
This crippling disease can strike anyone. Presently there is no known cause of the disease though support is bringing researchers closer to an answer. In the mean time it costs an average of $200,000 a year to provide the care ALS patients need. Help make a difference and donate or join a walk today.
Most of the money raised at our walk goes to aiding patients. Patients who are waiting for their own insurance or Medicare to kick in for that power chair or lift or some other piece of equipment that will make it possible for them to be cared for at home. It also goes for our patient care teams. We have two certified ALS clinics in Ky. No other state can say that. (Of course Ky. also has a higher rate of people getting the disease for some reason). These centers make the tedious task of getting to all the doctors easier. They are all in one place! And they are all trained to work with ALS. My point is, the money doesn't get sucked into a black hole like some charities. We get to see it working.
Thanks for listening and hopefully, it will inspire you to donate, walk, collect, or all three!
