Cooking For a Cure,
Would you please help fight ALS, a disease that kills over 5000 people a year.
What is ALS you might ask? It is a neuromuscular disease that kills the nerves for the voluntary muscles of the body.
So what you may ask? You've lived a good, moral, clean life so this ALS won't affect you. Maybe. They don't know what causes ALS. Doctors, teachers, preachers, factory workers, farmers, housewives, and the list goes on; suffer from ALS.
How do I know so much about this disease? I serve on the Board of Directors for the ALS Association for the State of Kentucky. Also, I am an ALS patient.
In October of 2005 I came home from a day of teaching. My wife and I sat down to talk about the events of our day. Joan stopped me after a short time. If I didn't know better I would think you were drunk. she stated.
The puzzle was, I didn't drink. That day started a year long search that would end with a diagnosis of ALS.
Today I cannot move my hands, head, or speak. I breathe and eat through tubes. This is ALS as it progresses. There is no treatment or cure, yet.

Why We Need Your Help
Often referred to as Lou Gehrig's Disease, amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) is a progressive, fatal neuromuscular disease that slowly robs the body of its ability to walk, speak, swallow and breathe. The life expectancy of an ALS patient averages 2 to 5 years from the time of diagnosis.
Every 90 minutes a person in this country is diagnosed with ALS and every 90 minutes another person will lose their battle against this disease. ALS occurs throughout the world with no racial, ethnic, or socioeconomic boundaries.
This crippling disease can strike anyone. Presently there is no known cause of the disease though support is bringing researchers closer to an answer. In the mean time it costs an average of $200,000 a year to provide the care ALS patients need. Help make a difference and donate or join a walk today.
